The Council of Colleges of Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine (CCAHM) is pleased to announce the results of its 2024 Executive Committee election. Thomas Kouo, DAOM, L.Ac., Dipl.OM, has been elected to a two year term as President. Kouo has served as Vice President on the Executive Committee since 2021. He is the Vice-President for Academic Affairs and New Jersey Campus Director at the Virginia University of Integrative Medicine (VUIM). While Kris LaPoint, PhD, L.Ac., Campus Director from the Midwest College of Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine (MCAHM) concludes her second term as President, she was re-elected to the Executive Committee as Member-at-Large, bringing continued insight and experience to the Executive Committee in her new role. Allyson Wilson, DAOM, AP, Dean of the Atlantic Institute of Oriental Medicine (ATOM), was also re-elected to serve a third term as Secretary.
Following the election of Dr. Kouo to President, a special election will be held to fill the now-vacant Vice President position, as well as an additional vacant Member-at-Large position. Further details about the timing and process of this election will be announced to members in the coming weeks.
The Council extends its gratitude to Kris LaPoint, outgoing President, for her exceptional service and leadership through her terms as President. The Council also offers special thanks to Sherri Green, Ph.D., LCSW, MSW, M. Dipl. Ac., President of Jung Tao School of Classical Chinese Medicine, who concludes her third term as Member-at-Large. Their dedication and service have left a lasting impact on CCAHM and the community at large.
Incoming President Thomas Kouo shared his enthusiasm for his new role, stating, “It is an honor to serve this Council and to work alongside so many inspiring and talented colleagues. I look forward to fostering a renewed sense of community, where our member colleges can connect, share ideas openly, and support each other fully, with renewed energy to educate and heal.”
Reflecting on her time as President, LaPoint shared, “It has been a privilege to lead CCAHM and to work with such passionate and dedicated professionals to advance and promote the future of this medicine. I am thrilled to welcome Thomas Kouo as our new President. His vision and commitment to fostering unity, creativity, and healing will be invaluable as we move the profession forward together.”
